The Abacus :: built for Nate Miller

The Abacus floor controller has 17 buttons and an easy to read, high resolution OLED display. It was designed to control the Abacus switcher and its 8 audio loops. The floor controller has 5 presets organized in 256 banks. 8 instant access switches are used to directly control the loops on the Abacus switcher.

Each preset can store its own tempo value for preset specific tempo updates to all of Nate's time based effects. A discrete Tap Tempo button allows for tempo updates on-the-fly. The current preset tempo is continuously visible via the tempo LED. Tempo outputs can be any combination of an Abacus loop, a MIDI global clock, and/or a MIDI CC output. For example, Nate has a TC Electronic G-Major 2 in addition to a Pigtronix Echolution pedal with an added external tap tempo input. One of the G-Major relay outputs is connected to the Echolution tap tempo input. In the Abacus he can therefore transmit both a global MIDI clock to sync the G-Major, and also a MIDI CC to control the relay output and thus update the tap tempo of the Echolution. With the the tempo features built-in to the Abacus, no longer are there any limitations with using analog pedals in your rack! In fact, with the preset-by-preset recallable tempo, the end result is a much more flexible system than one could imagine.
